Knights split with Raiders
GRAETTINGER — The Graettinger/Terril baseball team split a Cornbelt Conference doubleheader with Ruthven-Ayrshire on Tuesday.
The Knights took game one 7-2 with the Raiders holding on for a 5-4 win in the second game.
However, the first game counted toward league standings as G/T (3-3) evened its Cornbelt Conference mark at 1-1.
“We played a solid game defensively and were able to work our way out of a couple of tough situations,” said G/T coach Jared Cecil. “Offensively, we are still looking for some consistency up and down our lineup”
The Knights had only six hits on the night.
Tyler Leiting was 2-3 with a double and a stolen base. Dalton Perrin was 1-1 with a double, two RBIs and two walks. Cody Dyhrkopp was 2-4 and Taylor Harris was 1-4.
Harris earned the win. He gave up two hits, struck out seven batters and walked four.
In game two, the Knights fell behind 5-0 and a rally in the bottom of the fifth inning came too late.
“We did an outstanding job of providing a chance to win it, but came up a little short,” said Cecil. “The guys never gave up and finished the game with runners in scoring position. “We had a lot of quality at bats late in the game, but just couldn’t come up with one more hit.”
The Knights only had two hits, but drew 10 walks in the game.
Leiting was 1-1 and Perrin was 1-3 with an RBI.
Dyhrkopp took the loss. He struck out five and walked three while giving up three hits in five innings of work.
G/T hosted Armstrong-Ringsted on Wednesday and hosts Woden-Crystal Lake-Titonka in a doubleheader on Friday.
