A-R runs past G/T

GRAETTINGER — Armstrong-Ringsted took an early lead against Graettinger/Terril and the Mustangs kept their distance with six runs over the final two innings for a 15-7 win on Wednesday.

“We were not ready to play,” said G/T coach Jared Cecil. “The guys came out flat in batting practice, pregame and infield, which carried over tot he game.”

The coach said his team did take advantage of some opportunities to score, but left 12 runners on base.

“Defensively, we made too many errors and gave up too many chances to score,” Cecil said.

The Mustangs held a 5-0 lead after 3 1/2 innings before the Knights plated a pair of runs. A-R outscored the hosts 4-3 in the fifth and 6-2 over the final two innings.

For A-R, Tyler Tonderum was 2-4 with two RBIs, a double and two stolen bases. Shaun Ash was 2-3 with three RBIs and a triple and Brett Tigges was 1-3 with five stolen bases.

For G/T, Cody Dyhrkopp was 2-3 with a double and an RBI, Tyler Leiting was 2-4 with a triple and an RBI, Tanner Gunderson was 2-4, Taylor Harris was 1-3 with an RBI and a sacrifice and Cody Leiting was 1-4.

Ethan Eisenbacher pitched five innings in the victory as he struck out six batters and walked four. Brett Tigges closed out the game and gave up three hits and two walks.

“A-R has a quality ball club and will do a lot of good things this season,” said Cecil.

Tyler Leiting took the loss for the Knights. he went the distances and had four strikeouts with six walks.

G/T (3-4, 1-2) hosts Corwith-Wesley-Luverne today.

A-R (3-2, 2-1) hosts Woden-Crystal Lake-Titonka in a doubleheader today.
