Indians hit well against Orabs

SPIRIT LAKE — With seven players recording at least one hit, the Spirit Lake softball team defeated Sheldon 10-1 on Wednesday.

Mary Brown was the inning pitcher as she stuck out six batters, walked six and gave up just two hits.

At the plate, Kori Heidebrink as 2-4, a double and three RBIs, Kylie Ingvall was 2-3 with two RBIs, Emily Mercer was 2-3 with two RBIs, Kaisha Brown was 2-3, Alli Gerking was 1-3, Caila Jones was 1-3 and Megan Ingvall was 1-2 with two RBIs.

Spirit Lake hosts its tournament on Saturday.


Sheldon 8, Spirit Lake 0

SPIRIT LAKE — The Spirit Lake baseball team was shut out for the second game in a row as Sheldon beat the Indians 8-0 on Wednesday.

The difference wasn’t much in hitting as the Orabs had five hits to four by Spirit Lake, but the Indians had five errors on the night and also gave up six runs in the fifth inning.

Brad Engel took the loss. He went five innings with 10 strikeouts and eight walks, but gave up only five hits and one earned run.

Kyle Heidebrink closed out the game, striking out one batter and walking three.

At the plate, Engel was 1-2 while Derrick Miner, cody Davis and Tyler Dean all went 1-3.

Spirit Lake lost 18-8 to Okoboji on Thursday.
