Midgets take down ‘pack’ in six

HULL — Keith Fandel helped his own cause with a three-run triple in the fourth inning as ELC defeated Western Christian 11-1 in six innings on Monday.

Fandel earned the win as he struck out nine batters and walked six while giving up just two hits in the win.

The Midgets scored five runs in the fourth inning which was followed by a solo home run from Marcus Stangl in the fifth.

ELC closed out the game with several singles in the sixth including one by Stangl and one by Prather.

Stangl was 3-4 with two RBIs, Prather was 2-3 with an RBI and Fandel was 1-3 with three RBIs.

Also, Alex Arends was 1-2 and Matt Gruhlke, Chance Moore and Jeremy Hunt all went 1-4.

“We got hitting up and down the lineup which really helped,” said ELC coach Chuck Fandel. “Keith threw a nice game with nine strikeouts which is half the outs in six innings.

ELC (8-6, 3-3) travels to Sheldon on Wednesday.

In junior varsity play, ELC lost 3-2 as Western Christian came up with the game-winning hit with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

Jeremy Hunt pitched the first three innings, but Cody Prather closed out the game and took the loss.
