POCAHONTAS — The Armstrong-Ringsted came out of a pitchers’ duel with a 3-2 win in nine innings over Pocahontas on Thursday.

The Indians had loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth, but the Mustang defense held.

Coach Hilary Menke said after dodging that bullet, the Mustangs were determined to score.

Amy Leach hit a double and courtesy runner Brittney Mitchell went to third on a wild pitch.

Senior Michele Iris then delivered an RBI single to put A-R ahead for good.

“Both Amy and Michele batted well and came threw for us,” said Menke. “Defensively we only had two errors.”

Leach earned the win as she struck out 12 and gave up five hits and three walks.

At the plate, April Gunderson was 2-4 with an RBI, Iris was 2-2 with an RBI and Leach was 1-3 with a double.

A-R (10-1, 5-1) hosts Estherville Lincoln Central today.
