Hot Midgettes!

After spotting Cherokee six runs in the top of the first inning, Estherville Lincoln Central settled down and shut down the Braves for the next six innings on the way to a 15-6 win on Monday.

Cherokee hit the ball well in the first inning with five hits along with two walks and an ELC error.

The Midgettes didn’t need a single hit to get back in the game in the bottom of the inning.

The Midgettes drew eight walks as they answered with seven runs. They were helped by a few passed balls and wild pitches.

Erin Beardsley drew the first walk and Melanie Bandow was hit by a pitch. A passed ball allowed the runners to advance and Beardsley scored when Wegner grounded out to the shortstop.

Bandow scored on the passed ball o empty the bases, but Kristi Juergens, Maggie Asman and Jordan Jacobson all drew walks to load the bases. Courtesy runner Alex Olesen scored on another passed ball and Christa Clayton drew a walk to reload the bases. Amanda Christensen drew a walk to bring in a run and then Jacobson scored when Cherokee’s starter was called for an illegal pitch.

Taylar Jacobson drew a walk and Beardsley came up with a sacrifice fly as ELC led 7-6.

The Braves had changed pitchers in the first inning, but Juergens drew a leadoff walk. courtesy runner Olesen stole second and with two outs, Clayton hit an RBI double.

In the third inning, Beardsley hit a one-out single that went between the legs of the left-fielder. She went to third on the play and scored on a passed ball.

In the fourth inning, Asman reached on an error and moved to third on consecutive groundouts. Christensen came up with an RBI single and courtesy runner Emily Jensen scored when Taylar jacobson reached on an error.

That was followed by consecutive doubles by Beardsley and Bandow for two more ELC runs.

In the sixth, Juergens led off with a walk followed by a single by Asman and an RBI single by Jacobson. Asman tried to score on the play, but was thrown out at home for the first out. Clayton delivered another RBI single to complete the scoring.

Christensen earned the win. She ended with six strikeouts, including striking out thee of the four batters in the third inning, along with four walks and a hit batter.

At the plate, Beardsley was -4 with two RBIs, Clayton was 2-4 with two RBIs, Bandow was 1-3 with an RBI, Asman, Jordan Jacobson and Taylar Jacobson were all 1-3.
