Anderson grand slam propels A-R past R-A
ARMSTRONG — Logan Anderson’s grand slam home run in the bottom of the seventh inning propelled Armstrong-Ringsted past Ruthven-Ayrshire 13-10 on Monday.
Both teams started strong defensively with three scoreless innings with Anderson on the mound for A-R and Tyler Enderson pitching for R-A.
The Raiders pushed a run across in the top of the fourth and A-R scored four in the bottom of the inning, when Anderson suddenly started struggling on the mound.
“It was a long inning (at bat) for us and I could tell Logan was not warm when he went back out there,” said A-R coach Ryan Luedtke.
Anderson struggled and either hit or walked six batters in the inning. That combined with two errors allowed the Raiders to score eight runs and take a 9-4 lead.
Ethan Eisenbacher took over for Anderson with one out and R-A led 10-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth.
But A-R chipped at the lead, scoring four runs to cut the deficit to two.
In the seventh, Shaun Ash led off with a walk followed by a single from Spencer Clausen. A sacrifice bunt by Eisenbacher moved the runners to second and third and R-A walked Dillion McBride to load the bases.
Brett Tigges then reached on a fielder’s choice, the defense forced out McBride at second base, while courtesy runner Craig Tigges crossed the plate for the tying run.
Brett Tigges stole second and the Raiders walked Tyler Tonderum to load the bases.
Anderson sent the 1-1 pitch over the left-center field fence to end the game.
Anderson pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up three hits while walking five batters and hitting five with one strikeout.
Eisenbacher gave up three hits, struck out one batter, walked one and hit one as he picked up the win.
At the plate, Ridge Christiansen went 3-3 with a double and an RBI, Anderson was 2-3 with five RBIs, Tonderum was 2-4 with two doubles and two RBIs and Clausen was 2-4 with an RBI.
A-R improves to 6-6 overall and 4-3 in the Cornbelt Conference.
