Tigers edge past Indians
SPENCER — Spirit Lake and Spencer didn’t put up a lot of hits, but the Tigers found a way to win, 3-1, on Monday.
“I thought we played a pretty good ball game tonight,” said Spirit Lake coach Joleen Brown. “We just did not finish the deal. Mary (Brown) and Caila (Jones) did a great job of moving the ball around and held a great hitting team to two hits on the evening.
“However, our bats were silent too. We only had three hits,” she said. “As a team we need to do a better job of putting the ball in play and to continue to adjust with each different pitcher.“
Kori Heidebrink had one of the Indians’ three hits, a solo home run in the fourth inning.
Alli Gerking had the other two as she went 2-4.
“Defensively, I felt we played more aggressively, especially in the outfield,” coach Brown said. “Our outfielders were able to make some catches tonight that we usually let fall in for base hits.”
