Mustangs blank Knights
TERRIL — Class 1A No. 11 Armstrong-Ringsted came up with two big offensive innings to beat Graettinger/Terril 9-0 on Monday.
A-R went right to work in the first inning as Morgan Grabinoski led off the game with a single, stole second and went to third on a single by Lisa Pelzer. Pelzer stole second and April Gunderson hit a two-RBI single.
Gunderson went to second on a wild pitch and third on passed ball and then Logan Evans drew a walk and stole second base. Gunderson scored on a single by Megan Sanders and Evans scored on another wild pitch. Sanders scored when Brianne Gonzales grounded out and the Mustangs had a 5-0 lead.
The Mustangs scored four more runs in the fifth inning which included a stand-up triple by Pelzer, a dropped ball in center field and an RBI single by Sanders. After a double by Rosie Cheever, two runs scored on a single by Gonzales.
Amy Leach earned the win as she gave up two hits, struck out eight batters and walked one.
Dakota Hovinga had both hits for the Knights as she was 2-3.
“The girls just weren’t sharp tonight,” said G/T coach Jana Hector.
For A-R, Lisa Pelzer was 2-4, and Sanders was 2-4 with two RBIs. Gunderson was 1-4 with three RBIs.
Malorie Girres took the loss for the Knights. She struck out four batters and walked one.
A-R (14-3, 8-2) hosts harris-Lake Park on Wednesday.
G/T (6-12) is home with Sibley-Ocheyedan on Wednesday.
