Mustangs win without a hit

FOREST CITY — The Armstrong-Ringsted softball team found a way to win a game without a single hit and shut out both its opponents at the Forest City Tournament on Saturday.

The Mustangs opened with a 1-0 win against Belmond-Klemme. A-R scored the game’s lone run when Rosie Cheever drew one of the two walks giving up by the Cowboys’ Shelby Doherty. Cheever moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Logan Evans and went to third base on a passed ball before scoring when Megan Sanders grounded out to second.

A-R’s Amy Leach provided the second half of the pitchers’ duel. Leach struck out 11 and gave up just one hit with no walks in the win. Both teams committed two errors.

The Mustangs pounded out nine hits in a 6-0 win over Forest City.

Leach struck out 10 and walked one while giving up just three hits.

At the plate, Evans was 2-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, Sanders was 2-3 with an RBI, Brianne Gonzales was 2-3, Leach was 1-2 with an RBI, Brittney Mitchell was 1-3 and Morgan Grabinoski was 1-4.
