ELC falls behind in Lakes race
SPENCER – In a battle for the lead in the Lakes Conference race, Estherville Lincoln Central and Spencer battled for 10 innings Wednesday evening. The Tigers prevailed with two hits in the 10th for a 5-4 victory.
Both teams entered the game with two conference losses.
Spencer led 4-0 after three innings, but the Midgettes immediately began chipping at the lead.
In the fourth inning, Brenna Wegner hit a two-out double and scored on a single by Jordan Jacobson.
In the fifth inning, Erin Beardsley hit a solo home run over the left-center field fence with one out. Christa Clayton reached on a fielder’s choice which was followed by a walk to Kristi Juergens and an RBI single by Wegner.
However, ELC didn’t push the tying run across until the seventh inning when Clayton hit a solo shot over the left field fence.
The two teams went scoreless for two more innings before Spencer came up with a one-out single followed by a double to end the game.
Wegner led the ELC bats as she went 4-5 while Beardsley was 2-5. Clayton, Jacobson Emily Jensen and Bandow each had one hit.
Amanda Christensen pitched three innings, giving up six hits and one hit batter.
Kendall Bosch pitched the final seven innings, giving up four hits with six strikeouts and no walks.
ELC (22-7, 8-3) travels to Sheldon today. Junior varsity starts at noon followed by the varsity.
