By taking care of business and getting a little help from Storm Lake, the Estherville Lincoln Central softball team is back in control of its destiny in the Lakes Conference race.

With three conference losses, ELC entered Monday’s game with Western Christian a game behind Spencer in the standings.

The Midgettes beat the Wolfpack 4-1 while the Tornadoes handed Spencer its third conference loss 3-0.

ELC (27-7, 11-3) winds up the regular and conference season with a home game today versus Sheldon and travels to Emmetsburg on Wednesday.

Against Western Christian, ELC took the lead in the first inning as Erin Beardsley drew a leadoff walk went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Emily Jensen and scored on a two-out single by Brenna Wegner.

ELC scored two more in the third inning with Christa Clayton hitting a two-run home run over the left-field fence.

Western Christian took advantage of ELC’s one error and two hits in the top of the fifth inning to plate one run, but ELC retired the final six Wolfpack batters in order.

Meanwhile, the Midgettes added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning as Beardsley hit a one-out triple to center field and Kristi Juergens had a two-out RBI double to right field.

Amanda Christensen earned the win as she struck out six batters while giving up five hits with one hit batter.
