EMMETSBURG – Spirit Lake matched Emmetsburg hit for hit on Friday, but the E’Hawks evidently had the timely ones. Trailing 4-3 heading into the bottom of the fourth, Emmetsburg outscored the visitors 8-0 over the last 3 1/2 innings for an 11-8 victory.

Ethan Carlson pitched six innings, striking out seven batters and walking three.

At the plate, Derrick Miner was 3-3 with a solo home run and a double, Carlson was 3-4 while Mitch Peschon, Nik Erickson, Ryan Jennings and Cody Davis each had one hit. Jennings had an RBI.

Algona 3, Spirit Lake 2

SPIRIT LAKE – The Spirit Lake softball team came up short in a 3-2 loss to Algona on Friday.

Mary Brown took the loss. She struck out five batters while giving up five hits and three walks.

At the plate, Emily Mercer was 1-1, Kori Heidebrink was 1-3 with a double and an RBI, Alli Gerking, Caila Jones and Megan Ingvall all were 1-3.
