Knights win third straight
GILMORE CITY – The Graettinger/Terril softball team will enter the Class 1A regional playoffs with a little momentum after defeating Twin River Valley 7-2 on Tuesday.
The win marks the team’s third straight victory over the last two days.
“I feel we’re ready,” said G/T coach Jana Hector. “We made some nice catches and Malorie’s (Girres) is pitching with confidence.”
Tied 1-1 heading into the fifth inning, the Knights pulled away with four runs.
Nikki Brown reached on an error followed by a sacrifice bunt by Amanda Oleson. A single by Dakota Hovinga ended with runners on second and third and then Liz Sparks hit a two-run double up the middle. That was followed by a single by Theresa Petersen. A groundout by Leah Flaharty scored the third run with a fourth run coming home when Jennie Mart reached on an error.
At the plate, Sparks was 3-4 with two runs and three RBIs, Tasha Neilson was 2-4, Hovinga was 1-3, Petersen was 1-4 with a run and an RBI and Mart was 1-4 with an RBI.
Girres earned the win. She gave up four hits and four walks with no strikeouts.
G/T (9-13, 5-4) travels to Swea City today to play North Sentral Kossuth in the first round of the Class 1A Regional playoffs.
