EMMETSBURG – The Estherville Lincoln Central baseball team didn’t have its best night in a 13-2 loss to Emmetsburg on Wednesday.

The E’Hawks pounded out 12 hits to just one for ELC to earn the five-inning victory.

ELC did hold a brief lead as consecutive errors by Emmetsburg allowed Matt Gruhlke to reach base and then score when Marcus Stangl reached on an error in the first inning. But Emmetsburg led 3-1 after one inning.

ELC managed one more run in the second as Cody Prather drew a walk and Jeremy Hunt singled. Chance Moore laid down the sacrifice bunt to move the runners and Justin Doyle was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Prather scored when Keith Fandel reached on a fielder’s choice, but that was all ELC could get.

The E’Hawks plated four more runs in the bottom of the second.

Hunt had the Midgets’ lone hit.

He also took the loss on the mound. He struck out four batters and walked two in four innings of work.

ELC (18-11, 10-6) will host MOC-Floyd Valley next Tuesday.
