Knights finish up regular season

LAKE PARK – Graettinger/Terril made Harris-Lake Park works for its first conference title on Wednesday.

H-LP earned a share of the Cornbelt crown with a 4-1 victory over the Knights. Class 1A No. 3 North Sentral Kossuth shares the title.

Knights’ starter Taylor Harris struck out three batters and gave up four hits, but issued seven walks in the loss.

However, G/T struggled at the plate.

The Knights strung their only two hits together to score the one run in the top of the second inning.

Dalton Park singled and scored on a double by Jeremiah Andrews. Both were 1-3.

In the second game, scheduled for just five innings, the Knights rallied in the top of the fifth with two runs to tie the game at 4-4. However, H-LP came back to win 6-5 in seven innings.

The Knights took advantage of two errors to start the fifth inning. Colin Leiting then scored on a sacrifice by Taylor Harris. Cody Dyhrkopp scored on a wild pitch.

G/T took its only lead when Park reached on an error, went to second on the sacrifice by Andrews and to third on wild pitch. park scored on a squeeze bunt by Mitch Girres.

H-LP tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a walk, bunt and a wild pitch.

In the seventh, H-LP got runners on second and third. With the Knights’ infield drawn in, a single up the middle won the game.

At the plate, Girres was 1-2, Park and Tanner Gunderson were 1-3 and Dyhrkopp and Harris were 1-4.

Tyler Leiting pitched for the Knights. He gave up five hits with six walks and eight strikeouts.

G/T finishes the season with a 7-14 record overall. The Knights will play Armstrong-Ringsted at 5 p.m. next Tuesday at Bancroft for the first round of 1A post-season play.

On Monday, Graettinger/Terril finished one of its games against Clay Central-Everly, falling 11-0 in five innings. The two teams played their scheduled game with the Mavericks winning 14-3 in five innings.

The first game started back on June 11 and the Knights were down 7-0 after three innings. Tyler Leiting took the loss with mitch Girres pitching the two innings of relief on Monday.

The Knights only had two hits, one each by Harris and Dyhrkopp.

In the second game, the Knights started well with singles by Dyhrkopp and Harris and a two-run double by Leiting in the first inning.

However, G/T only had one more hit, a solo home run by Harris is the fourth inning.

Leiting again started on the mound with Girres pitching in relief.

On Friday, June 27, Graettinger/Terril lost 17-0 to North Sentral Kossuth in four innings. The Eagles led 14-0 after one inning.

Taylor Harris started the game with Girres pitching in relief.

At the plate, Dalton Perrin had a single and Park had a double.
