Class 3A Regional Softball – Tigers run past Indians
SPENCER – Spirit Lake’s season came to an end on Saturday as Spencer defeated the Indians 5-1 in the Class 3A Regional quarterfinal.
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the first inning with Spirit Lake’s lone run coming in the fourth inning.
Spencer added insurance runs in both the sixth and seven innings, but the Indians couldn’t muster the hits.
“Spencer hit the ball very well tonight,” said Spirit Lake coach Joleen Brown. “We battled hard and continued to put the ball in play however we made a few too many mental errors in the field and on the bases to overcome their big hits.”
The Tigers out-hit the Indians 9-5.
For Spirit Lake, Megan Ingvall was 2-3 with a double, Leah Hilpipre was 1-2 with a double, Alli Gerking was 1-2 and Kori Heidebrinnk was 1-3 with a double.
Mary Brown took the loss. She struck out four batters and walked four.
Playing in their final game for the Indians were seniors Kylie Ingvall and Kaisha Brown.
