BANCROFT – Although Armstrong-Ringsted had the advantage over Graettinger/Terril in the regular season, the Knights came up big in the Class 1A first-round district game in Bancroft on Tuesday.

The Mustangs helped a little-unintentionally.

In the second inning, A-R committed four errors and G/T came up with four hits and drew two walks to score eight runs.

While the Mustangs had plenty of baserunners-leaving 14 stranded-they couldn’t come up with the hits as the Knights won 13-8.

The first inning went by quickly.

A-R first baseman Logan Anderson works to keep the Knight runner close to the base.

G/T’s Tyler Leiting had a two-out double in the top of the inning.

In the bottom of the inning, Knight starter Taylor Harris walked three batters, but also struck out three as A-R left the bases loaded.

G/T did all its damage in the second inning with two outs and with Jeremiah Andrews on first base via A-R’s first error.

Tanner Gunderson drew a walk and Colin Leiting came up with a bloop single for the first run.

Cody Dyhrkopp then hit a ball to right fielder Shaun Ash who couldn’t hang on as another run scored. Harris followed with an RBI single and Tyler Leiting drew a walk to load the bases. Dalton Perrin reached on an error as Dyhrkopp came home and Harris scored on a throwing error. Dalton Park came up with an RBI double for a 6-0 lead.

A-R coach Ryan Luedtke pulled starter Ethan Eisenbacher, who took the loss after giving up four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Dillion McBride entered in relief and gave up a two-RBI single to Andrews, but then got Mitch Girres to pop up for the third out.

The Mustangs got on the board in the bottom of the inning as Ethan Eisenbacher and McBride both drew two-out walks with Spencer Clausen coming up with an RBI single.

But G/T ended the threat when the catcher, Perrin, made a grab along the fence on a pop up.

A-R pushed across one more run as the Knights committed two one-out errors allowing Brett Tigges and Ash to reach base and a bunt single by Travis Hantelman loaded the bases. Brett Tigges scored when Craig Tigges grounded out to first baseman and A-R again left the bases full as Eisenbacher flew out to right field.

G/T scored one run in the fourth with Harris leading off with a single and Tyler Leiting a walk. McBride struck out the next two batters, but then walked Andrews and Girres to bring one run around before getting out of the inning.

A-R again scored only once in the fourth with McBride and Clausen leading of with consecutive singles, but only scoring one run on a sacrifice fly by Logan Anderson.

The Knights came up with three runs in the fifth. Colin Leiting led off with a single and appeared to score on a double by Cody Dyhrkopp. The umpire ruled Leiting didn’t touch third base and he was out on appeal.

Meanwhile, A-R made its third pitching change this time going with Ridge Christiansen.

McBride left after giving up three hits and four walks.

He gave up a walk to Harris and then Dyhrkopp scored on passed ball. Tyler Leiting singled and the runners were at second and third when Perrin hit a two-run double for a 12-3 Knight lead.

A-R managed just one run in the fifth with a double by Tigges and he scored on an RBI single by McBride.

The one-run Mustangs scored again in the sixth with Anderson drawing one-out walk, stealing second and eventually scoring on a wild pitch. Harris gave up three walks with two outs to load the bases, but again got a pop up to end the threat.

In the seventh, the Knights put up one more insurance run as Harris was hit by a pitch and scored on a double to right-center field by Leiting.

A-R’s rally in the seventh came up short. McBride was hit by a pitch followed by a single by Clausen. With two outs, Anderson hit a two-RBI double which was followed by a single from Brett Tigges.

The game ended with Ash and Hantelman each hitting grounders to second baseman Park and the Knights taking the force out at second base.

Harris earned the win, giving up 10 hits and nine walks with four strikeouts.

Christiansen gave up two hits, four walks, one hit batter and had three strikeouts.

The Knights were led at the plate by Tyler Leiting, who went 3-3 with two doubles. Harris was 2-3 with an RBI, Perrin was 1-4 with three RBIs, Park was 1-3 with an RBI, Andrews was 1-3 with two RBIs and Colin Leiting was 1-2 with an RBI. Also Dyhrkopp was 1-5.

For A-R, Clausen was 3-4 with an RBI, McBride was 2-2 with an RBI, Anderson was 1-2 with three RBIs, Hantelman was 2-4, Craig Tigges was 1-2 with an RBI and Brett Tigges was 1-5.

A-R (10-12) had three seniors play in their final game, Dillion McBride, Logan Anderson and Brett Tigges.

G/T (8-15) advances to play the winner of North Iowa vs. North Sentral Kossuth, which was the second game played at Bancroft on Tuesday.
