Midgets sink Dutchmen
With a strong pitching performance from Keith Fandel and solid hitting in the middle of the lineup, Estherville Lincoln Central took care of business in a 7-0 non-conference win over MOC-Floyd Valley on Tuesday.
Fandel gave up just two hits while striking out seven batters and walking one in the shut out.
“Our pitching strong made things easy and we got the timely hitting,” said ELC coach Chuck Fandel.
Scott Schmidt had the hot bat, going 3-3 with a double, triple and three RBIs.
The Midgets went to work with two outs in the first. Matt Gruhlke and Marcus Stangl both reached on errors with Schmidt delivering an RBI single. Cody Prather followed with an RBI single of his own with another Dutchmen error allowing a third run to score.
In the second inning, another Dutchmen error allowed Justin Doyle to reach base. Courtesy runner Marcus Christensen went to third on a one-out double by Alex Arends and scored on a single by Gruhlke.
In the third inning, Schmidt led off with a double and Prather reached on an error. A one-out single by Chance Moore scored Schmidt.
In the fourth inning, Arends drew a walk and scored on Schmidt’s triple. Prather then singled in Schmidt.
Prather was 2-3 with two RBIs and a double. Jeremy Hunt, Moore and Arends all were 1-3 and Gruhlke was 1-4.
