ELC to host two volleyball camps
Girls in fifth through eighth grades at Estherville Lincoln Central Middle School are strongly encouraged to register for the volleyball camp slated for Aug. 4-6.
The volleyball program this year will be under the direction of new head coach Tyler Johnson.
The junior high camp is scheduled between 10 a.m. and noon in the high school gymnasium. The cost per student is $25.
“This is a way for middle school participants to learn the basics and become familiar with volleyball fundamentals,” Johnson said.
It is a way to learn about the sport and decide if it is something the student-athlete wants to pursue.
T-shirts will be provided for all camp participants. Registration forms may be picked up at the high school athletic office.
The coach said participants can bring the completed registration form with parental signature and fee on the first day of practice.
There will also be a high school camp for students in grades nine-12 on the same dates. This camp will meet from 8-10 a.m. and return in the afternoon from 1-3. The cost for high school participants is $40.
Johnson encourages anyone planning on playing volleyball at the high school in the 2008 season attend this camp also at the high school.
The coach will be the new English 10 teacher at ELC High School. His coaching history includes two years as head coach at Fort Calhoun High School in Fort Calhoun, Neb., six years as head coach at Audubon High School in Iowa and one year as assistant coach at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge during the time he was completing student teaching requirements.
