They didn’t have to run to get their free sweet corn, but the participants of the seventh annual Run for the Cob run/walk still gave a good showing.

With near perfect running conditions-not too hot and no rain-the event drew the most participants in its history. One-hundred thirty-nine runners and walkers took the course that started at the Estherville Lincoln Central Middle School and finished in Library Square.

Brad Peter of Arnolds Park was the overall 5K winner, finishing in an unofficial time of 16 minutes, 37 seconds.

Stannetta Svoboda of Fairmont, Minn., was the first female runner to cross the finish line completing the race in 20:46.

Proceeds from the race help the Estherville Lincoln Central/Armstrong-Ringsted High School and Iowa Lakes Community College cross country teams.
