Lakers romp in region opener

The Iowa Lakes volleyball team had little trouble in the first region match of the season.

Visiting Ellsworth was overmatched with the Lakers winning 3-0 by scores of 25-14, 25-10, 25-23.

“They couldn’t return serve at all,” said Iowa Lakes coach Scott Tschetter of the Panthers. “Every ball that did come over, we returned as a kill.”

Erin Jacobsen led the attack with 13 kills.

Allison Albers chipped in eight kills while Teegan Hunziker had six and Rachael Nelson had five.

Martha Stover had 22 set assists.

For the match, the Lakers had 24 blocks-half of them were accounted for by Nelson and Albers who each had six.

Also defensively, Hunziker had 10 digs.

Iowa Lakes (4-9, 1-0) travels to Cedar Rapids this Friday and Saturday for the Kirkwood Tournament.

The Lakers play Lincoln Land College and Cowlie College on Friday followed by Parkland and Southwestern (Ill.) on Saturday.
