COUNCIL BLUFFS – An injury-riddled Iowa Lakes Cross Country Team competed at the Iowa Western meet in Council Bluffs on Saturday.

Only five Lakers nine runners competed-two women and three men.

“Four or our athletes didn’t run due to injuries or starting late in season,” said Iowa Lakes coach Molly Struve.

Four other schools competed at the event: Creighton, Dana, Iowa Western and Indian Hills.

In the women’s race, Candace Klepper led the Lakers with an 18th place finish in 25 minutes, 14 seconds in the 5K race. Angela Pearson finished 22nd in 29:55.

In the 8K men’s race, the Lakers were led by Bart Zimmer in 38th place in 31:51 followed by Mitch Sparks in 47th in 35:50 and Dane Ross in 50th in 37:30.

The next meet for Iowa Lakes is in Northfield, Minn., hosted by St. Olaf College on Sept. 20.
