Mustangs netters open play at Fort Dodge

FORT DODGE – The Armstrong-Ringsted volleyball team had a dubious start to the 2008 season with a 1-3 record at the Fort Dodge St. Edmond’s Tournament on Saturday.

The Mustangs opened with a 2-1 loss to host St. Edmond and, according to coach Sandy Tigges, weren’t ready to play Southeast Webster as they lost 2-0.

A-R earned its first win of the season with a 2-0 win over Van Meter, but ended the tournament with a 2-1 loss to LeMars.

For the day, Carrie Sorensen and Megan Sanders each had four kills while Brianne Gonzales and amy Leach each had three.

Taylor Grabinoski had nine set assists and Tess Christiansen had five.

Defensively, Gonzales, Sorensen and and Sanders each had six digs.

Leach led the net defense with seven blocks.

Serving, Sanders was 35-41 with four aces. Sorensen was 17-for-17. Gonzales was 18-for-22 with two aces and Grabinoski was 15-for-17.

A-R (1-3) is at Ruthven-Ayrshire today.
