A rare sight for the Estherville Lincoln Central/Armstrong-Ringsted boys team appeared at the home meet on Saturday-a full varsity squad.

In recent years, ELCAR has been unable to fill out the seven-man roster.

Tuesday’s inexperienced crew even managed a fifth place finish, beating both Emmetsburg and Pocahontas Area.

In the team’s first race a week ago, ELCAR had just four participants, three of them were running their first cross country race.

In Tuesday’s meet, three more runners competed in their first meet.

“Obviously we don’t have a frontrunner, but we had a nice pack,” said ELCAR coach Tina Burton. “They’re working hard and they paid attention to running close together.”

Senior Dan Kirchner led ELCAR with a 35th place finish in 29 minutes, 58 seconds while Phil Roach finished in 20:59 in 36th place and Mike Radig was 39th in 21:30. Scott Schmidt was 47th in 23:24 and David Roach was 49th in 24:16.

Non-counting scores were a 50th place finish by Nick Schwab in 24:21 and 54th by Jon Abrahamson in 27:28.

Spirit Lake Park won the meet with 27 points followed by Algona with 40, Spencer with 101, Laurens-Marathon with 115, ELCAR wit 206, Emmetsburg with 211 and Pocahontas Area with 230.

ELCAR travels to Galva-Holstein on Saturday.
