The Spirit Lake Park girls cross country team won their second straight race of the 2008 season again in dominating fashion with 38 points at the Estherville Lincoln Central/Armstrong-Ringsted Invitational on Tuesday.

While not having five runners in the top 10, the Class 2A No. 2 Indians did have all five scoring runners in the top 15 on the way to 38 points. Spencer was second with 89 followed by ELCAR with 97, Humboldt with 103, Pocahontas Area with 116 and Algona with 138.

“Except for Carrie (Emgarten) we finished in a completely different order from last week,” said SLP coach Tim Heinitz. “The top five girls were still all just 35 seconds apart. It’s nice to know we have some depth and have somebody that can pick us up.

Heinitz said Erin Lynn was SLP’s sixth runner a week ago and Chelse Parks ran junior varsity. The were the No. 3 and No. 5 runners for the Indians on Tuesday.

Emgarten, rated 16th in Class 2A, finished third in 16 minutes, 21 seconds with Abby Gustafson, rated 21st in Class 2A, finished fifth in 16:29 and Lynn was sixth in 16:30.

Mary Brown, rated 17th in Class 2A, was 11th in 16:51 while Parks was 13th in 16:57.

Briana Brunsvold finished 16th in 17:04 and Megan Skalbeck was 19th in 17:11.

SLP returns to action Monday at Emmetsburg.
