SPIRIT LAKE – While the Estherville Lincoln Central volleyball team only one one game at the Spirit Lake Tournament on Saturday, the Midgettes proved they can play within any team by winning that one game against tournament champion Sibley-Ocheyedan.

“We had them on the ropes several times, and really played well and aggressively against them,” said ELC coach Tyler Johnson. “That match showed us that if we can play well consistently we can play with anyone.”

ELC opened the tournament with a 21-17, 21-19 loss to Harris-Lake Park.

“We made some mistakes in our first match when we had opportunities to win, and those cost us, as that was a match I was hoping that we could get,” Johnson said. “We missed serves at 18-18 and 19-19 of the second game, which really hurt.”

ELC followed that with a 21-14, 21-8 loss to Okoboji and then played Sibley-Ocheyedan, losing 15-21, 21-12, 17-15 before falling to North Sentral Kossuth, 21-17, 21-8.
