Knights post 2-2 mark at E’burg Tourney
EMMETSBURG – The Graettinger/Terril volleyball team took a roller coaster ride at the Emmetsburg Tournament on Saturday.
The Knights opened with a 2-1 loss to Algona by scores of 18-21, 21-7, 15-11, and came back with a 2-1 win over Emmetsburg with scores of 26-16, 19-21, 17-15. Graettinger/Terril then lost 2-1 to Storm Lake by scores of 21-8, 19-21, 15-10, before ending the day with another 2-1 win over Emmetsburg by scores of 25-23, 17-21, 16-14.
“When we were up, we were hitting hard, communicating and moving quickly,” said G/T coach Teresa Alesch. “During the last two matches of the tournament our serve reception and digging improved tremendously. Our sets and hits naturally followed.”
For the tournament, Theresa Petersen led the Knights with a team-high 32 kills and nine blocks. She also had 34 digs and 29 good serves with one ace.
Tasha Neilson had 24 kills and eight blocks along with 29 digs. She served 39 times with two aces.
Malorie Girres had 13 kills, six blocks and five assists. Dakota Hovinga had seven kills, five blocks and five assists. She also served 28 times with one ace.
Liz Sparks had 58 set assists and served 26 times with one ace.
Leah Flaharty led the backrow defense with 35 digs.
Graettinger/Terril (6-4) hosts Clay Central-Everly today.
