After winning the first game 25-14, it took the Iowa Lake volleyball team a little longer than it probably would’ve liked against North Iowa Area Community College on Monday.

The Trojans took the next two games, 25-19, 25-23 before the Lakers reasserted themselves to win the final two games, 25-20, 15-9.

“We just can’t give points away and expect to win a lot of games,” said Iowa Lakes coach Scott Tschetter. “We gave them 10 or 11 points in the third game on missed serves and other stuff.”

On the positive side, Tschetter said the passing was “substantially better.”

There were a few changes on the court compared to the last time the Lakers were on the floor.

A new addition to the team, Yawn Xiao from Shanghai, China, led the team with 12 kills. She also had 16 digs.

Martha Stover moved from setter to libero and led the team with 23 digs.

Beatriz Besora and Alison Albers split time at setter in a 6-2 offense with Albers recording 21 assists and Besora had 20.

Albers also had seven kills and 10 blocks.

Teegan Hunziker had 10 kills along with 21 digs, nine blocks and a pair of ace serves.

Erin Jacobsen had seven kills, eight blocks and three ace serves.

Iowa Lakes (6-12, 2-0) is on the road at the Johnson County Tournament this Friday and Saturday.
