Speltz leads ELCAR at Tornado meet
STORM LAKE – For the second straight meet, Traci Speltz led the Estherville Lincoln Central/Armstrong-Ringsted girls cross country team.
Speltz placed 12th in 16 minutes, 48 seconds, at the 11-team meet in Storm Lake on Tuesday to help ELCAR to a third-place finish.
“Traci exceeded my expectations,” said ELCAR coach Tina Burton. “I continue to look to her to keep improving.”
Spirit Lake Park won the meet with 33 points followed by Spencer with 1116, ELCAR with 121, Denison-Schleswig with 131, Sioux City North with 137, Algona with 153, LeMars with 184, Carroll-Kuemper with 190, MOC-Floyd Valley with 192, storm Lake with 233, Sioux City West with 250 nd Cherokee with 398.
Brittany Ross was the second ELCAR runner to finish as she placed 18th in 17:11. Brooke Egeland was 25th in 17:29, Emily Jensen placed 29th in 17:39 and Alyssa Ayers was 37th in 18:03.
Non-counting scores were a 53-place finish by Samantha Natterstad in 18:54 and Bailey Raska placed 61st in 19:23.
“We did well, but I thought we ran a little sluggish,” said Burton. “I know we have more to give.”
Three ELCAR runners competed in the junior varsity race.
Krista Pelzer finished eight in 19:07 while Melissa Gjerde was 19th in 19:43 and Adreanna Laabs was 49th in 22:55.
“Krista and Melissa had an excellent start,” said Burton. “We just have to make sure we keep doing that and move up.”
ELCAR travels to Sheldon next Tuesday.
