‘Stangs gallop past Panthers

ARMSTRONG – Playing two nights in a row didn’t affect the Armstrong-Ringsted volleyball team as the Mustangs earned their third win of the season with a 3-0 win over Corwith-Wesley-Luverne on Tuesday.

A-R won by scores of 25-16, 25-22 and 25-15.

“We played much smoother tonight than last night,” said A-R coach Sandy Tigges. Teamwork and mental attitude was much better.”

The Mustangs had three players with four kills-Megan Sanders, Brian Gonzales and Carrie Sorensen.

A-R, playing for the second night in a row without their second setter Tess Christiansen, had 11 set assists from Taylor Grabinoski.

Serving, the Mustangs had 10 ace serves with Sanders and Sorensen each with three.

Sanders had three digs.

Gonzales led he net defense with three blocks. Sorensen, Amy Leach and Harley Lindell each had two.

A-R (3-5) is at North Sentral Kossuth on Thursday.

Sioux Central 3, A-R 0

Sioux Central appeared to get stronger and stronger against Armstrong-Ringsted as the visiting Rebels won 3-0 over the Mustangs on Monday.

Sioux Central took game one, 25-22 and went on to win the next games 25-14 and 25-7.

“We started the evening with a lineup change as Tess Christiansen got sick during warmups,” said A-R coach Sandy Tigges. “We just couldn’t get things to click and were just a second slow.”

Megan Sanders and Carrie Sorensen each had four kills to lead A-R.

Taylor Grabinoski had seven assists and was 1-for-11 serving.

Amy Leach had the lone ace serve for A-R.

Sanders and Brianne Gonzales each led the defense with four digs apiece.

Gonzales and Leach each had two blocks.
