Indians earn first Lakes win with victory over E’Hawks
SPIRIT LAKE – After giving up the first game to Emmetsburg, Spirit Lake took the next three for a Lakes Conference win on Tuesday.
The E’Hawks took game one 25-17, but the Indians dominated the next three by scores of 25-15, 25-13 and 25-21.
“We had set up several goals prior to the match – to improve our hitting efficiency, our serving percentage and to run a quicker tempo offense,” said Spirit Lake coach Kolette Delperdang. “I feel our passes have gotten better so that we are able to run quick plays more frequently. Now the setters have to gain confidence with setting the shorter sets and the hitters have to gain confidence as well in their ability to hit the quick sets.”
Amber Kirschbaum led the way with 17 kills and six blocks. Sara Martinson had seven kills and six blocks while Ashley Colwell had five kills and six blocks.
Alex Horsman had a team-high 14 assists while Kori Heidebrink had 10.
Serving the Indians had nine aces led by Heidebrink with three while Kylie Stoll had two. Colwell was perfect on 13 serve attempts with one ace.
“We met our goal of a better serving percentage but not by much,” said Delperdang. “We did not really meet our other two goals. We continue to have way too many hitting errors.”
Defensively, Stoll had 14 digs while Colwell had 11 and Chelsie Stettnichs had nine.
Spirit Lake (7-4, 3-1) is at the Forest City Tournament on Saturday.
