Racing Comets and Tigers – Oh My!
EMMETSBURG – The Algona/Estherville Lincoln Central Girls Swim Team split a double dual Tuesday at its home meet in Emmetsburg.
The team defeated Charles City 51-25, but lost to Spencer, 79-14. The split gives the Algona/ELC team a 2-2 record for the season.
“This was a good meet for the girls,” said coach Jim Fisher. “We set the goal to come out and have fun and drop our times, and we dropped in nine of the 14 entries we swam. We competed well against Spencer and came out on top against Charles City in all 10 events we were in. Plus, 13 of the 14 entries scored.”
The only home meet of the season, the team celebrated senior night and honored ELC’s Lauren Boggess.
First-place finishes went to the three relay teams, Hanna Degen in the 100 breast stroke and 50 freestyle, Missy Zadow in the 100 backstroke, Lauren Boggess in the 200 freestyle, Kendall Bosch in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly and Deb Weidemann in the 100 freestyle.
Boggess placed second in the 100 freestyle and Liz Humble was third in the 200 freestyle and 100 breast stroke.
Bosch placed second in two events against Spencer.
In junior varsity action, Nicole Person was third in the 50 freestyle.
The eight-member Algona/ELC swim team consists of four members from each school. ELC’s members are Boggess, Weideman, Humble and Bosch.
The swim team travels to Charles City on Saturday for the Comet Invitation.
