Indians coming off first victory
SPIRIT LAKE – Tonight’s matchup between Spirit Lake and Sibley-Ocheyedan features two 1-2 teams which both earned their first victory of the season last week.
Spirit Lake may have surprised a few people with its 35-14 win over Rock Valley/Boyden-Hull last week as the Nighthawks were a playoff team a year ago.
Sibley-Ocheyedan defeated Western Christian 14-6.
Coach Josh Bolluyt, in his first year as head coach for the Indians, said his team is coming along.
“Last week we had a good week of practice and we’ve had another good week of practice this week. The kids are focused,” he said.
Bolluyt said his players are picking up the new system.
“The learning curve is getting better every day,” he said.
Looking toward Sibley-Ocheyedan, Bolluyt sees an aggressive team.
“Offensively, they don’t make a lot of mistakes,” he said. “They’re very aggressive on special teams so we’ll have to be disciplined.”
The Generals also return several players from last year’s team.
“They have a good group of players,” he said.
However, the focus is still on his team.
“This time of year, we’re not talking about what the opponents do, we’re concentrating on what we do,” he said.
