Indians stumble against Sibley-Ocheyedan

SIBLEY – Spirit Lake has had a tendency to score first this season, but the Indians couldn’t hang on to the 7-0 first quarter lead as host Sibley-Ocheyedan score the final 19 points for the 19-7 victory.

The Indians took their opening drive and scored on a 34-yard pass from Tyler Solsma to David Dinklage.

The Generals answered in the second quarter with Greg Hiemstra scoring on a quarterback keeper.

They added two touchdowns in the third quarter.

The Indians rushed 85 yards on 28 carries while Sibley-Ocheyedan had 261 carries on 53 yards.

Solsma was 14-for-34 passing for 161 yards, but he had two interceptions.

Derrick Miner was 1-1 for 42 yards.

Receiving, TJ Johnson had seven receptions for 56 yards, Dinklage had two receptions for 57 yards, Tucker Stellinga caught one pass for 42 yards, Nik Erickson caught three passes for 30 yards and Kyle Heidebrink had one catch for 25 yards.

Miner was the leading rusher with 36 yards on nine carries. Erickson ran the ball 15 times for 26 yards.

Sibley-Ocheyedan won the turnover battle, 4-2, with two interceptions and two fumble recoveries while Spirit Lake’s Solsma intercepted a pass and Derek Halquist recovered one fumble.

Kyle Heidebrink led the defense with 14 tackles and Max Stammer had 12.

Spirit Lake (1-3, 1-1) is at Western Christian on Friday.
