Lakers post 3-1 record in Kansas
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Iowa Lakes volleyball team had its best weekend of the season, posting a 3-1 record at the Johnson County Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
The Lakers opened play Friday with a 3-1 win over Coffeyville by scores of 28-26, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-19, but then lost 3-0 to host Johnson County by scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-19
Friday’s leaders included Alison Albers with 37 set assists and five blocks while Teegan Hunziker had 22 kills and Yawen Xiao had 20 kills.
Martha Stover led the team with 42 digs while Hunziker and Xiao each had 34.
Stover also led the teams in aces while Hunziker and Xiao each had two.
On Saturday, the Lakers beat Central College (Columbus, Neb.) 3-2 by scores of 25-21, 25-23, 12-25, 17-25 and 15-13. Iowa Lakes followed that victory with a 3-0 sweep over No. 18 Lincoln Land College. Match scores were 25-21, 25-2, 25-17.
Beatriz Besora and Albers each had 36 set assists.
Xiao led the attack with 20 kills followed closely by Hunziker with 19 and Erin Jacobsen with 18.
Albers had 15 blocks while Hunziker and Jacobsen each had seven.
Stover led the back row defense with 65 digs while Hunziker had 43. Hunziker and Stover each had five ace serves.
Iowa Lakes hosts Marshalltown Community College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
