Knights stumble against Wolverines
WEST BEND – The Graettinger/Terril volleyball team lost its second Cornbelt Conference match of the season match of the season, a 3-1 decision that went the way of West Bend-Mallard.
The Wolverines took the win by scores of 25-18, 25-27, 25-16, 25-12.
While the loss was disappointing, the loss of middle hitter Tasha Neilson to an injury in game two may have hurt more.
“We came out ready to play tonight,” said G/T coach Teresa Alesch. “The Knights just couldn’t set up defense against WB-M’s outside hits to the middle. Missing a few crucial serving opportunities took us out of game one.
“Midway through the game two, we lost Tasha Neilson, who was on fire, to an injury,” she said. “Despite an unfamiliar position, Alex Rehm came in and did a great job in both serve receiving and serving, and the Knights claimed the victory.”
However too many errors in the final contest couldn’t be overcome.
Theresa Petersen led the Knights with 11 kills, two blocks 15 digs and 16 serves with seven aces.
Neilson had four kills, two blocks and nine digs before leaving the match.
Dakota Hovinga had four kills, and 10 digs.
Lindsay Flaharty had 18 set assists and had nine serves with one ace.
Malorie Girres had 10 digs and served nine times with one ace.
Leah Flaharty had two blocks and 13 serves with three aces.
Graettinger/Terril (8-7, 3-2) hosts Ruthven-Ayrshire today.
