Lakers stay on the attack

The Iowa Lakes volleyball team won its second consecutive division game this week with a 3-0 sweep of Marshalltown on Wednesday.

The Lakers took the first two games easily, winning 25-17, 25-13 and then hung on for a 25-23 win in the final game.

Alison Albers had 26 set assists.

Yawen Xiao, who averages 2.6 kills per game, led the team’s attack with seven kills.

Erin Jacobsen, who also averages 2.6 kills per game, had six kills on the night.

Rachael Nelson also had six kills against Marshalltown.

Albers, a 5-11 sophomore from Goodhue, Minn, who leads the team in blocks his season with 131, had five blocks against the Tigers.

Teegan Hunziker, the team leader in digs this season with 322, added 19 to that total on Wednesday.

Iowa Lakes remains perfect in region play at 4-0. The Lakers improve to 11-13 overall as they travel to the North Dakota State College of Science Tournament in Wahpeton on Saturday.
