Indians rally falls short

HULL – Spirit Lake again held an early lead, lost it, and then nearly rallied for a victory against Western Christian on Friday.

However, the Wolfpack managed to hold on for a 20-17 victory.

Senior Tyler Solsma kicked a 28-yard field goal in the first quarter and Western Christian scored the next 20 points for a 20-3 heading into the final period.

Solsma came back with a 4-yard run and then threw a 5-yard pass to Tucker Stellinga, but the Indians ran out of time.

Solsma was 11-of-25 passing for 115 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Spirit Lake outrushed the Wolfpack 107 to 103 yards.

The Indians were led by Nik Erickson who had 55 yards on 11 carries while Derek Halquist had 50 yards on 15 carries.

Harrison Hargett caught two passes for 56 yards while Halquist had three catches for 18 yards. Kyle Heidebrink had two catches for 18 yards and Stellinga had two catches for 12 years.

Defensively, Blake Bonnicksen had 15 tackles and recovered a fumble. Erickson had 10 tackles. Also Taylor Coon recovered a fumble.

Spirit Lake (1-4, 1-2) hosts Sheldon on Friday.
