Knights charge past Thunder
GILMORE CITY – After fumbling a punt and allowing Twin River Valley to score first, the rest of Friday’s game belonged to Graettinger/Terril in the Knights’ 44-6 victory.
“We’re coming out with intensity and the guys are seeing what happens when we have an early lead,” said G/T coach Karlton Hector. “From there, the game flows pretty well.”
While the Knights rushed for 312 yards, they also worked on their passing game.
Quarterback Cody Dyhrkopp was 6-of-10 for 79 yards and three touchdowns.
“We were working on it because we might need to go to it more in the future,” said Hector. “Cody was throwing well and the guys were making some nice catches.”
Graettinger/Terril’s first two scores came through the air, a 10-yard strike to Beau Craig in the first quarter and then a 9-yard pass to James Tatman early in the second quarter.
Drew Skattebo ran in the two-point conversion after the first score with Morton Utoft kicking the extra point on the second touchdown.
Jake Hoffman then had an 8-yard touchdown run before halftime and Utoft kicked a 34-yard field goal as the Knights led 24-4 at the break.
The second half was all Knights.
In the third quarter, Skattebo scored on a 6-yard run and Kass Schany caught a 1-yard touchdown pass. Utoft kicked both extra points.
The Knights completed the scoring early in the fourth quarter when Jeremiah Andrews scored on a 5-yard run.
Twin River Valley rushed for 164 yards and passed for 70.
“Defensively, they had a few big plays, but we stopped them when we needed to,” said Hector.
Hoffman led the Knights’ ground attack with 140 yards on 17 carries. Skattebo had 94 yards on 12 carries. Dyhrkopp ad Andrews each rushed 5 times for 33 yards.
Kass Schany caught four passes for 60 yards while Tatman had 1-catch for 9 yards and Craig had 1 catch for 10 yards.
The Knights (4-1, 2-1) hosts Laurens-Marathon on Friday.
