Lakers post 4-0 mark at NDSCS

WAHPETON, N.D. – After a slow start this season, the Iowa Lakes volleyball team is coming along quickly.

The Lakers went 4-0 this past weekend at the Wildcat Invite hosted by North

Dakota State College of Science.

The Lakers defeated Central Lakes 2-0 by scores of 26-24, 25-15; Williston State 2-0 by scores of 25-14, 25-18; NDSCS 2-1 by scores of 25-19, 23-25, 15-6; and Bismarck State 2-0 by scores of 25-23, 25-23.

Iowa Lakes coach Scott Tschetter said in the game they dropped to NDSCS, the Lakers lost intensity before coming back strong in the final game.

The coach said his defense is becoming more consistent.

“Now we’re working on speeding up the offense,” he said.

Alison Albers had 80 set assists for the Lakers along with a team-high 19 blocks. Albers leads the country in blocks per game with an average of 1.7.

Teegan Hunziker and Yawen Xiao each had 29 kills.

Hunziker also had six aces serves and Xiao had five.

Defensively, Hunziker had 45 digs, Martha Stover had 43 and Xiao had 41.

Also Erin Jacobsen had 15 blocks.

Iowa Lakes moves above .500 to 15-13 overall.
