Braves pull past Midgettes
CHEROKEE – The Estherville Lincoln Central volleyball team took a long road trip to lose by so few points on Thursday.
The Midgettes opened with a 26-24 victory in game one against Cherokee, but then lost 27-25 in the second game with the Braves taking the final two games, 25-22, 25-11.
“In each of the last three games, we had leads when we were in the 20s,” said ELC coach Tyler Johnson. “We just didn’t finish.”
Poor serving in the second game also didn’t help the Midgettes.
Johnson said ELC missed eight serves in that game.
In the fourth game, the coach said the Midgettes were still playing hard, but had trouble putting the ball down.
Kelsie McCauley led ELC with 10 kills and six blocks.
Kaylene Vos had 25 set assists along with six blocks. She also was 19-for-21 serving with two aces.
Defensively,Megan Woods had 14 digs while Taylor Larson and Maggie Asman each had nine.
ELC hosts its tournament this Saturday at the high school. Play begins at 9 a.m., with ELC starting with the second match of the day.
In the junior varsity match, ELC won 2-1 by scores of 21-14, 21-19, 15-12.
The ELC freshman won 2-0 by scores of 21-14 and 21-15.
