SLP teams sweep
CHEROKEE – The Spirit Lake Park cross country teams competed against many of the same opponents at the Cherokee Invitational on Tuesday.
The result was similar to what the Indians have most of the season-sweeping victories for both the girls and boys teams.
The SLP girls team, rated No. 2 in Class 2A, had six runners in the top 15 to defeat Unity Christian by 20 points, 33 to 53.
The Class 2A No. 1 SLP boys’ team had five runners in the top 25 to win by more than 40 points, 57 to 99 over MOC-Floyd Valley.
Top female finishes for the Indians were a second-place finish from Abby Gustafson in 16 minutes, 15 seconds. Carrie Emgarten was fourth in 16:22, Megan Skalbeck placed seventh in 16:26, Mary Brown placed ninth in 16:31 and Briana Brunsvold was 11th in 16:36.
Non-counting scores were a 14th-place finish by Erin Lynn in 16:9 and Chelsea Parks in 18th place in 17:13.
On the boys side Alec Baldwin led Spirit Lake Park with a third-place finish in 16:46. Jesse Baldwin placed seventh in 17:00; Keith Byers was 13th in 17:17, Mitchell O’Neill was 16th in 17:25 and Tyler Gustafson was 18th in 17:31.
Placing sixth was Jon Messer in 23rd in 17:48 and Jordan Knox in 33rd in 18:13.
The Spirit Lake Park teams travel to Hull on Monday for the Lakes Conference meet.
