ELCAR junior high girls edge conference foes

SPIRIT LAKE – The Estherville Lincoln Central/Armstrong-Ringsted junior high girls cross country team beat two Lakes Conference teams it has battled all season long in the final race of the season on Thursday.

However, non-conference opponent Sibley-Ocheyedan had a complete team for the first time this year to win the meet hosted by Spirit Lake.

The Generals came in with 42 points followed by ELCAR with 65, Emmetsburg with 68 and Spencer with 72. Both Emmetsburg and Spencer had beaten ELCAR this season.

Spirit Lake was fifth with 112 points followed by Okoboji with 138.

ELCAR was led by an eighth-place finish from Paige Taylor in 14 minutes, 51 seconds. Sara Heywood placed 12th in 15:15 followed by Heather Natterstad in 14th clocking a time of 15:18, Maggie McCauley placed 15th in 15:47, Brianna Enerson was 16th in 15:52 and Tia Johnson was 17th in 15:57.

Also, Tira Johnson placed 25th in 16:53, Rebecca Boyer placed 31st in 17:41, Samantha Longman was 32nd in 17:43, Linsey Irmiter was 42nd in 19:53 and Kristin Koenck was 49th in 22:56.

Boys race

The ELCAR boys team was led by an eighth-place finish by Jake Rosburg in 13:50. Martin Christensen placed 13th in 14:45 and Cody Linn placed 26th in 16:45.

Spencer won the boys race with 28 points followed by Spirit Lake with 54 and Okoboji with 100.
