Lakers finish perfect in region
MARSHALLTOWN – The Iowa Lakes volleyball team completed its perfect run through region play with its 3-0 win over Marshalltown on Monday.
Coach Scott Tschetter said despite the sweep, his team had too many hitting errors.
“We didn’t start moving our feet until we were down 22-18 in the second game and then decided to move,” he said.
The Lakers won by scores of 25-21, 27-25, 25-22.
“The third game we played relatively well,” said Tschetter.
Alison Albers had 29 set assists with Yawen Xiao leading the attack with 10 kills. Teegan Hunziker and Erin Jacobson each had seven kills.
Defensively, Albers and Jacobsen had six blocks apiece while Hunziker and Xiao had 10 digs apiece.
Hunziker led the serving with two aces.
On Friday, The Iowa Lakes volleyball team breezed through its two matches at the Iowa Central Tournament on Friday. The Lakers swept both its opponents, beating Southeast Community College 25-15, 25-19, 25-16 and Southwestern Community College 25-11, 25-14, 25-22.
Yawen Xiao had a team-high 27 kills with Erin Jacobsen adding 20. Allison Albers had 62 set assists along with six blocks. Jacobsen and Rachael Nelson each had five blocks.
Teegan Hunziker contributed 41 digs and four ace serves while Martha Stover had 36 digs and three aces.
Iowa Lakes (24-18, 8-0) travels to the Iowa Western Tournament on Friday in Council Bluffs.
