Stormy day at Storm Lake
STORM LAKE – After Thursday’s emotional win over Spirit Lake, the Estherville Lincoln Central hadn’t quite recovered by Saturday’s tournament at Storm Lake.
The Midgettes played four matches against Lakes Conference foes and came up on the short end of each.
“We looked lethargic the minute we stepped of the van,” said ELC coach Tyler Johnson. “A lot of kids looked tired. We finally woke up against Cherokee and played decent.”
Spirit Lake exacted revenge and began the day with a 21-16, 21-12 win over ELC.
The Midgettes lost 22-20, 21-10, 15-12 to Emmetsburg, 21-19, 21-10 to Storm Lake and 20-22, 22-17, 17-15 to Cherokee.
Kelsie McCauley led the team in kills with 16 on the day including 10 against Cherokee.
Taylor Larson had 12 kills.
Hannah Beernink also had four against the Braves, but only six on the day.
Kaylene Vos had 42 set assists and four blocks.
Defensively, Taylar Jacobson had 10 digs on the day.
Serving, Anna Bruns was 28-of-30 with two aces. Caitlyn Swisher was 21-22 with two aces.
ELC begins Class 3A postseason next Monday at Spencer. Match time is 7 p.m.
