ELC 2, WC 1: Midgettes find a way to win again
HULL – How do you win games? Score more than the other team.
The Estherville Lincoln Central softball team managed that feat by just one run for its third straight Lakes Conference victory on Wednesday.
The Wolfpack scored its only run in the bottom of the fifth inning with ELC scoring two in the top of the sixth and holding on for the 2-1 win.
Kendall Bosch picked up the win, giving up three hits while striking out four batters and walking two.
Bosch helped her cause in the sixth by drawing a leadoff walk. Jessica Phillips came in to run for Bosch and went to second on the sacrifice bunt by Taylar Jacobson.
Sadie Winter also laid down a bunt and beat out the throw for a single to put runners at the corners. She stole second and Emily Kirchner delivered an RBI single to tie the game.
With Caitlyn Swisher at the plate, a passed ball allowed Winter to score the eventual game-winning run.
At the plate, Kirchner was 2-3 with an RBI. Winter, Kelsey Shatto and Morgan Schichtl each went 1-3.
ELC (4-1, 3-0) plays its first home game today as the team hosts Sheldon.
The ELC Junior Varsity shut out Western Christian 14-0.
Melissa Gjerde struck out 11 batters and gave up two hits with no walks in the victory.
Christina Tendal was 2-4 with two RBI and two runs. Aryn Ward was 2-3 and scored twice. Maggie Haugen was 1-4 with four RBI and two runs.
