Graettinger/Terril 3, Armstrong-Ringsted 2: Knights celebrate win over Mustangs
TERRIL – The Graettinger/Terril softball team knew what to expect facing Armstrong-Ringsted ace Amy Leach.
However, the Knights came up with a single and three doubles in the fourth inning and held on for a 3-2 victory over the Mustangs on Wednesday.
“The girls connected well with the ball and found the holes,” said G/T coach Stephanie Hanson.
A-R got on the board first with Brittney Mitchell singling up the left field line and moving around the bases on a pair of ground outs by Morgan Grabinoski and Brianne Gonzales before coming home on a passed ball.
The Knights went to work in the fourth inning when Theresa Petersen led off with a single.
Dakota Hovinga then hit a one-out double to tie the game and pitcher Malorie Girres helped her cause with an RBI double of her own.
Maddy Schany also hit an RBI double in the inning to give host Graettinger/Terril a 3-2 lead.
Leach tried to help lead her team back as she hit a triple in the seventh inning with the run scoring on a single by Harley Lindell, but the Knights held on.
Girres earned the win as she gave up just four hits with two strikeouts, two walks and one hit batter.
Leach struck out 12 and walked none, but gave up seven hits.
G/T (3-1, 2-0) is home with Woden-Crystal Lake-Titonka on Friday.
A-R (1-3, 1-2) is home with Corwith-Wesley-Luverne on Friday.
