Another solid victory for ELC

EMMETSBURG – The Estherville Lincoln Central baseball team took an early lead on Emmetsburg and then cruised to a 7-2 victory over the E’Hawks on Monday.

Keith Fandel struck out 12 batters in the win while giving up seven hits and five walks.

“It’s one of those games where we got the lead and that allowed us to be more aggressive with our pitching,” said ELC coach Chuck Fandel. “We also took advantage of some walks and it helped that we hit up and down the lineup.”

The Midgets took the lead with a four-run second inning, all coming with two outs.

Alex Arends led off with a double. Two ground outs later, Jeremy Hunt was hit by a pitch. Justin Doyle and Joel Kazmerzak both drew walks to bring in the first run. Marcus Christensen then delivered a two-RBI single. After Chance Moore drew a walk to load the bases again. Fandel had an RBI single of his own.

At the plate, Arends was 2-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Scott Schmidt and Cody Prather also each were 2-4.

Hunt was 1-2 while Chance moore was 1-3 with a double and Kazmerzak was 1-3 with an RBI. Fandel was 1-4 with an RBI and Christensen was 1-5 with two RBI.

ELC (8-2, 4-1) travels to Cherokee on Wednesday.
