ARMSTRONG – It’s easy to win when the other team doesn’t score.

With an 5-0 victory over Algona on Tuesday, the Armstrong-Ringsted softball team hasn’t allowed a run in three games and four of the last five.

Senior pitcher Amy Leach continues to record double digits in strikeouts with 14 against the Bulldogs. Algona only had two base runners as they visitors had just one hit and the Mustangs had one error.

“We’re finally starting to play solid ball and the team is meshing well,” said A-R coach Hilary Menke.

The Mustangs scored one run in the first inning and plated four in the third inning.

The third inning began with a single by Rosie Cheever, who stole second base. Amy Leach drew a walk and Emily Irmiter drew a one-out walk to load the bases. Cheever scored on a wild pitch and then Harley Lindell stepped up with a two-RBI triple.

Lindell came home when Jasmine Clausen grounded out for the second out.

A-R had seven hits with Cheever going 3-3 with a double while Lindell was 2-3. Brianne Gonzales was 1-3 and Brittney Mitchell was 1-4.

A-R (4-3, 3-2) is home with North Iowa on Thursday.
